Photo Savers / Story Keepers

Our Photo Savers / Story Keepers workshop will teach you how to
create an organized family archive
that is sheltered from the ravages of time.

Join us and you will learn how to:

1. Extend the life of your treasured family photographs

...and stop worrying about whether you're taking good care of them or not.

2. Organize your photos so you can find a specific photograph in minutes

...without tearing apart your closet or attic! And, don't worry -- I'm not  gonna tell you to mark each and every single photo on the back. If that was the kind of advice I gave out, they'd never call me "The Practical Archivist."

3. Record the stories behind your photographs

...write them down before they are lost forever. Not only will you have a chance to reflect on your life, you will make your collection even more precious to future generations.

Organize your family archive the way an archivist does!

The good news is, it's not complicated. It's just that not many people know or understand what archivists do and how simple it really is...

Photo Savers / Story Keepers
Join Sally Jacobs, The Practical Archivist for an afternoon and get all the information, tips, and tools you need to organize your photos and record the stories behind them before they are forgotten. This half-day workshop covers all the basics of organizing and archiving your photographs, based on the system Sally created for her own family photographs. Learn how to protect your one-of-a-kind treasures from the ravages of time.

Photo Savers - Lose the shoebox.
You will learn -- step-by-step -- how to organize and archive your photographic prints, from "what to keep" to "how to keep." First we will tackle the problem of photos in chaos and how to get control of your collection. Then we will move onto real-world storage techniques and safe handling practices that will extend the life of your treasures. These are simple techniques designed with family collections in mind, and none of them will break the bank.

Story Keepers – Get it in writing.
Everyone knows the popular saying "a photograph is worth 1,000 words." But just imagine how much more valuable your inherited photographs would be if your grandmother wrote down her fondest memories and favorite stories about the people, places and events that were dear to her.

First, you will learn a simple method for organizing your memories so the details will NEVER be lost to time. Then, learn how to write brief but compelling essays about your treasured photographs. This technique is designed specifically for folks who hate to write. Lose your fear of writing while you get in touch with your past in a supportive workshop environment.

Be sure to bring: Copies of at least five individual photographs. Pictures can be modern or antique, but they should be ones that have a high sentimental value. It's OK to bring an entire album, but you’ll have to put original photographs away before I’ll let you eat or drink anything. (Archival Police!)

* Will recordings and handouts be made available for those of us who can't attend a workshop in Madison, Wisconsin? *

In a word, yes. But I'm not sure when the audio will be ready. Use the automatic link below to send me an email, and you will be among the very first to know when it's available for purchase. And since everyone has been so patient, list subscribers will get a special discount.

So. Just click the link below. That will open up a new email message on your computer. When it does, you'll notice that the "To" and "Subject" fields are conveniently filled in for you. Neat trick, huh? I taught myself how to do that.

Notify me when the Photo Savers audio and handouts are available for purchase.

[Update: May, 2007. Got the OK from Denis Ledoux to include his Photo Scribe content in sales of the recording. Now I just need to figure out how to work the editing software...]
